America's detention system is big business, creating financial incentives that can conflict with justice. Citizens Bank is a major lender to private prison companies that ICE relies on heavily to operate detention facilities. Many of these facilities are overcrowded, understaffed, and unfit for human habitation. Detainees have become ill, died in custody, or been transferred without explanation to unknown locations. Oversight efforts by federal lawmakers have at times been denied or obstructed.

Immigrants that have committed no crimes should not be sacrificed to a detention system that pays - with our tax dollars - for private profit, by the head.

Indivisible Newark DE and Indivisible Highlands and Beyond joined together to co-organize our second protest against Citizens Bank. Volunteers showed up to tell Citizens, and anyone driving by: it is unacceptable to profit from the cruel, inhumane, and unjust treatment of human beings.
