Upon assuming the presidency, Trump created the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and placed at its head Elon Musk - an unelected private citizen and billionaire, and a big donor to Trump's election campaign. Musk was granted unprecedented latitude to slash government budgets, cancel contracts, take control of private data like Social Security, and eliminate government workers through mass firing, layoffs, pressure to resign and early retirement.

Protesters showed concern for DOGE interference affecting health, safety, education, science and research, consumer protection, national parks services, and most notably social security.

It was reported that on this day more than 1,200 protests nationally were planned by more than 150 groups. The people have the power!
