The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), previously known as food stamps, has been the country's largest anti-hunger program, providing benefits to 42 million people including 110,000 Delawareans.

In 2025, the Trump administration ceased SNAP funding on November 1 as part of a strategy of retaliation against Democrats, exploiting an ongoing government shutdown over affordable healthcare. The Trump administration declined to use emergency funds set aside for SNAP, using the hunger and suffering of America's most vulnerable to fuel political turmoil.
